Simpson Autopsy Report Released

San Francisco

The autopsy report regarding the death of British Olympic Gold Medalist Andrew ' Bart' Simpson who died during training for the 34th America's Cup in May was released on Tuesday. Simpson suffered extensive trauma to his head and neck and drowned after being trapped under water for approximately 10 minutes.

The report by the San Francisco medical examiner stated their were serious cuts and bruises to Simpson's head and neck and that the foam inside his crash helmet "was irregularly separated consistent with being crushed." The cause of death was listed as "blunt trauma with drowning."

Simpson, 36, a strategist for Artemis Racing Team died on May 9 after his 72 foot catamaran.nosedived and broke into pieces during a training run on San Francisco Bay in preparation for competing in the America's Cup. Australian Olympic Gold Medalist and Moth World Champion, Nathan Outteridge was skippering the boat at the time.
