Yendys Dominates The Day At Hammo

Yendys smoked the fleet today with a fast result in the 30 nautical mile passage race to claim the overall lead in Audi IRC A Australian Championship from Shogun V by two points after four races. The weather gods delivered wet and windy 20 knot conditions as the fleet headed around Anne and Cole Islands then Denman to the finish line in Dent Passage.

"We did well to finish ahead of Living Doll who are quicker and all the other TP52's. The view is OK so far but you wouldn't want to draw any conclusions," said Yendy's Skipper Geoff Ross.

"This is an extraordinarily competitive regatta which will come down to a few seconds. As always both the crew and the boat are working very hard to optimise our performance. So far so good but we have a long way to go," Ross added.

Yendys, Michael Hiatt’s Living Doll and Shogun V were locked in a three-boat duel right to the finish, which is shows how fierce how competitive this fleet is. All three feature some serious international talent with rock star tacticians and helmsmen, including Steve Cotton and Mike Sanderson on the Farr 55, Living Doll, Australia’s own Steve McConaghy on Shogun V and Kiwi sailor, Gavin Brady on Yendys.

According to Skipper Mark Richards Wild Oats XI is being punished big time by their new rating on corrected time and there is no hope in hell they can claim line honours and an overall win this week.

"Today was a fantastic test for the crew. We pushed the boat to its absolute limit and we are happy with how things are going in the lead up to the Rolex Sydney Hobart,’ said Richards of their planned assault  and attempt for a sixth line honours win.
