CAMPER Arrive In Puerto Montt, Start Repairs - Volvo Ocean Race Update

CAMPER’s race to rejoin Leg 5 has started after they arrived in the Chilean port of Puerto Montt and launched into repairs.

Chris Nicholson’s team were met by a crack team of six CAMPER with Emirates Team New Zealand shore crew led by Neil Cox plus ultrasound technician Stefano Beltrando as they pulled into port around 2240 UTC.

Work began immediately to lift the boat out of the water to assess the extent of the structural problems to the hull of the team’s Volvo Open 70. The repair job should take around four days to complete but the team still plan to sail round Cape Horn and complete the leg under sail.

CAMPER suspended racing at 0130 UTC on Tuesday as they neared Puerto Montt.

They announced plans to divert to Chile on March 25 after discovering damage in the bow of their boat, brought on by ferocious weather conditions in the Southern Ocean.
