An international jury last night ruled against Ainslie effectively stripping him of his result from yesterday's race where he scored a second in race nine and disqualifying him from race 10. He held an eight point advantage over the rest of the Finn fleet going into yesterday's competition.

Ainslie dived from his boat, swam to a television boat, boarded it and angrily made his feelings known to the crew after he placed second to Dutch sailor, Pieter-Jan Postma in race nine.  The triple Olympic gold medallist claims he was affected by the wake caused by the media RIB on the downwind leg to the finish line. He then dived back into the water and returned  to his boat.

In a statement Ainslie said: "On the final downwind leg of the race, I was hindered by a media boat, the actions of which I felt were seriously impeding my progress in the race.

"Clearly with it being a World Championship, emotions are running high and in the heat of the moment after the race I boarded the media boat to make my views known to the crew. I realise this was an inappropriate course of action and have already apologised to those concerned."
