The margins were tight between the top three contenders but in the end Quantum Racing was just too slick and pulled out all stops to nail the Audi MedCup Circuit 52 Series title today in Barcelona.

With America’s Cup winning Skipper Ed Baird on the helm they made no mistakes. By getting the gun in today's first race ahead of their closest rivals to seal their fate regardless of how they performed in the second and final race of the regatta.

Even though Quantum Racing have lead this year's circuit since the season's first regatta in Cascais, the 2008 title winners were only ahead by 3.5 points going into the Conde de Godo-City of Barcelona Trophy. Quantum finished 15 points ahead of Bribon followed by Italy’s Audi Azzurra Sailing team in third.

RAN took out the Conde de Godo Barcelona Trophy followed by Bribon and Quantum Racing in third.

After Quantum Racing's victory in Cascais, they finished second in Marseille, fifth in Cagliari and third in Cartagena. Quantum Racing’s project manager Ed Reynolds, also co-architect of their 2008 title win, was one happy camper this afternoon.

“Of all the MedCups this is the one I am most thrilled about. When they had to step up, they did. We feel like we have been defending the whole season, like we had a target on our backs since we won in Cascais at the beginning of the season. We were defending before we were ready to. I just hate to lose, and so I have such a sense of relief but it is so great to be part of a team like this. In competitive sport when everything is on the line to be a part of something which stands up and takes control that was the best part of the whole year,” Reynolds said.
