The class has gained popularity in Italy, the UK and the U.S.A. and with a total of 180 boats worldwide of which 50 are based in Europe.

“It's a modern boat, fun but also competitive, demanding and technical,” the Spanish representative for the class, Víctor Mariño said.

“One Design and real time are the future of sailing, and that's what Spain should aim for. The Melges 32 class is perfect as it's simple to mount, transport and maintain,” Mariño added.

The class attracts many of the world's leading sailors including America's Cup yachtsmen Russell Coutts, James Spithill, Cameron Appleton and Vasco Vascotto.
