Likeatiger Smoking Hot At Hammo

David Turton’s Mooloolaba based FT10 Likeatiger had one of her wildest rides today at Audi Hamilton Island Race Week in the 30+ knot sou'easter.

Turton and his five man crew, who started 25 minutes ahead of the 100 foot supermaxi Wild Oats XI, had the 33 footer nudging 20 knots and laid it over a couple of times. Not only were they the first Performance Racing 2 Division boat to reach Double Cone Island, but they were also second boat to the island behind Wild Oats XI, which is more than three times their length.

“It was busy downwind, we had a couple of good rests [laid over] but everyone is smiling. We’ve had plenty of rides like that before however not with a five hour beat afterwards,” Turton said.

But it wasn't all fun and games as once they rounded Double Cone Island and headed back into the breeze and chop, the crew endured hours of backbreaking work. Tomorrow’s layday will give the crew a chance to kick back with a few beers, let their muscles rest and repair a bent stanchion and broken lifeline.
