Audi Hamilton Island Race Week KIcks Off

The 28th Audi Hamilton Island Race Week kicked off today under sunny skies with a 23.3 nautical mile race to Lindeman Island and back in a 15 knot sou'easterly breeze that had the fleet finishing under kite in Dent Passage.

TeamVodafoneSailing, the New Zealand based Orma 60 trimaran started at the back of the fleet but managed to claw its way up through the entire fleet to take the gun in the Super Multihull Division.

Wild Oats XI scored its first line honours victory in IRC Class A grand prix division ahead of Investec Loyal. Wild Oats XI's afterguard was stacked with plenty of rockstars with America's Cup sailors Grant Simmer and Iain Murray, and navigators Adrienne Cahalan and Ian Burns joining skipper Mark Richards.

Tomorrow the fleet will split as IRC A, IRC Passage Class B and the Melges compete in short course racing while the remaining divisions will race around an island course.
